♫ Hello! I'm Phil, and it's nice to meet you! ♫
I’m based in New York City, and I play oboe, english horn, piano, compose original music, conduct ensembles, and teach music. A few career highlights include:
In 2014 and in 2015, I toured with the Manhattan Symphonie to over 10 cities in China.
In 2015, I toured the United States with Josh Groban for the release of his album Stages.
In 2019, I performed at the Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards with guests Paul Shaffer, Joe Torre, and Martha Stewart.
From 2016-2020, I played in the Downtown Sinfonietta chamber orchestra with members of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
Between 2013-2024, I performed at Carnegie Hall eight times.
I am featured in the Amazon television series Mozart in the Jungle, season 1 (2014) and season 3 (2016). I am also featured in the Netflix original movie Maestro, starring and directed by Bradley Cooper (2023). For Maestro, we filmed in Carnegie Hall to recreate the debut concert of Leonard Bernstein with The New York Philharmonic. For filming, I wore an original suit from the 1940’s!
I was the music director of opera company Opera Upper West from 2014-2017, and I led productions of Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Poulenc’s La voix humaine, Menotti’s The Telephone, and Tom Cipullo’s Glory Denied. Here is a New York Times Review.
I currently teach Music Theory and conduct the Wind Ensemble at the Special Music School, a New York City public school for prodigies.
My musical training includes a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Music Performance from Mannes College The New School for Music. I have taught music at The Horace Mann School, Mannes Preparatory at The New School, Kinhaven Music School, The Special Music School, Interschool Orchestras of New York, and Manhattan School of Music Summer.
